PIN 188 DEBUGGING: QUICK FIXES FOR SIGNAL INTEGRITY ISSUES
GET READY TO FIX IT NOW

GRAB YOUR TOOLS
1. Power down the room.
2. Unplug every cable.
3. Lay the PCB on a strip, static-free mat.
4. Snag these tools: 1 GHz CRO, 50 passive voice probes, TDR(time-domain reflectometer), 0.1 F decoupling caps, 22 series resistors, tweezers, flux pen, solder wick, and a fine-tip iron set to 350 C.
ISOLATE THE NET
5. Locate pin 188 on the datasheet. Circle it.
6. Trace the net from pin 188 to the next part. Use a multimeter in continuity mode.
7. Mark every via, stub, and connecter along the way with a dry-erase dot.
8. Disconnect any loads downstream of pin 188. Clip the legs or lift the pins with tweezers.
SCOPE THE NOISE
9. Power up the room. Keep the load disconnected.
10. Attach the scope probe run aground jump on to the nighest run aground via. Clip the tip to pin 188.
11. Set the telescope to 100 mV div, 2 ns div, infinite perseverance.
12. Trigger on ascension edge, 50 threshold.
13. Capture 10 waveforms. Look for go-around 10, ringing 2 cycles, or subsidence time 1 ns.
MEASURE IMPEDANCE
14. Power down again.
15. Hook the TDR to the net at pin 188. Use a 50 SMA set in motion.
16. Fire a 20 ps rise-time pulse.
17. Read the resistance plot. Target 50 10. If it s off, the retrace is mismatched.
CHECK TERMINATION
18. Find the end of the net. Look for a final result resistor or electrical condenser.
19. If lost, solder a 50 resistance to ground at the furthest place.
20. Power up. Re-scope pin 188. Overshoot should drop below 5.
ADD SERIES DAMPING
21. If ring persists, add a 22 resistance in series at pin188 188.
22. Cut the trace 2 mm from the pin. Scrape solder mask off both sides.
23. Solder the resistor across the gap. Keep leads 24. Power up. Re-scope. Ringing should be gone.
DECOUPLE THE POWER RAIL
25. Find the great power pin feeding the driver of pin 188.
26. Solder a 0.1 F cap between world power and ground, 27. Add a 10 F bulk cap 1 cm away.
28. Power up. Re-scope. Noise floor should drop.
REDUCE STUB LENGTH
29. Identify any stubs branching off the main net.
30. Clip or lift the stubs. Keep the main retrace whole.
31. Re-scope. Reflections should shrivel.
CHECK GROUND BOUNCE
32. Probe the ground pin of the driver IC.
33. Set the telescope to AC yoke, 20 mV div.
34. Look for spikes 50 mV during transitions. If submit, ground plane is weak.
FIX GROUND PLANE
35. Add vias near the IC. Connect top and bottom run aground planes.
36. Use 0.3 mm vias, 1 mm slope. Solder both sides.
37. Re-scope run aground pin. Spikes should vanish.
VERIFY CROSSTALK
38. Probe next nets. Set the telescope to 50 mV div.
39. Trigger on pin 188 s transition.
40. Look for joined resound 10 of signalize bounty. If present, nets are too .
SEPARATE AGGRESSOR AND VICTIM
41. Increase spatial arrangement between nets to 3x trace breadth.
42. Route vital nets on inner layers with run aground planes above and below.
43. Re-scope. Crosstalk should drop below 5.
CHECK POWER INTEGRITY
44. Probe the great power pin of the driver IC.
45. Set the telescope to AC yoke, 20 mV div.
46. Look for droop 50 mV during transitions. If present, major power delivery is weak.
ADD LOCAL DECOUPLING
47. Solder a 0.01 F cap between power and run aground, 48. Add a 1 F cap 5 mm away.
49. Re-scope superpowe pin. Droop should disappear.
TEST WITH LOAD
50. Reconnect the downriver load.
51. Power up. Re-scope pin 188.
52. Verify signalise unity matches premature captures. If not, load is causation reflections.
MATCH LOAD IMPEDANCE
53. Measure the load resistivity with the TDR.
54. If it s not 50, add a serial publication resistance to pit.
55. Re-scope. Reflections should be gone.
CHECK CONNECTOR INTEGRITY
56. Inspect connectors for bent pins or cold solder joints.
57. Reflow any surmise joints. Use flux and fresh solder.
58. Re-scope. Noise should stabilize.
VERIFY CABLE SHIELDING
59. If pin 188 connects to a cable, the shield.
60. Ensure the shield is 360 terminated to run aground at both ends.
61. Re-scope. Common-mode make noise should drop.
TEST AT TEMPERATURE EXTREMES
62. Heat the board to 85 C with a hot air gun.
63. Re-scope pin 188. Look for debasement.
64. Cool the room to-40 C with suspend spray.
65. Re-scope. Verify sign wholeness holds.
